LONGER LIFETIME - UNIFORM WEAR
Abrasion during coating applications is influenced
by many factors – base paper quality, coater
speed, pigment type, coating color solids content,
and coatweight. On steel blades – and, to a lesser
extent, rods – wear is induced by the multiplication
of microploughing or microcutting events that
occur between the coating pigment particles and
the leveling surface.

BTG’s high-performance blades and rods ensure
coating color pigments can neither plastically
deform nor cut the material. Instead, BTG products
generate a micropolishing effect, resulting
in exceptionally low wear rates.
Our high-tech blade and rod materials are specially
selected to fulfill two basic requirements:
outstanding wear-resistance, and the ability to
produce excellent surface quality on coated
papers. BTG offers a wide range of products to
meet the needs of each different application, featuring
blade tips and rod surfaces treated with a
variety of materials such as ceramics, ceramicmetal
compounds (cermets), chrome, and even
elastomers. If required, blades and rods can also
be further adapted to better withstand edge wear,
enhance coatweight application, improve smoothness,
and more.
